Arbitrum Foundation supports the Launch of the first DeSci Chain, Now Live on Testnet

Arbitrum Foundation supports the Launch of the first DeSci Chain Now Live on Testnet graphics full Data Lake

Data Lake launches a Layer 3 blockchain powered by Arbitrum Orbit as an infrastructure for scientific research. The chain, initially released as a public testnet, already saw 3 million transactions, 60 smart contracts deployed and 36 ERC-20 tokens launched just days after the launch.

The launch of the Data Lake Chain also marks the beginning of its mission to build a robust, secure, efficient, and scalable infrastructure to support scientific research.

The journey of Data Lake, built by Medical Doctors to solve healthcare leveraging blockchain

Founded by two Forbes 30 under 30 medical doctors driven to improve healthcare, Data Lake is the leading Decentralized Science (DeSci) project dedicated to unlocking the potential of medical data to advance healthcare research. Working with major pharmaceutical and clinical trial companies, Data Lake leads the way of patient-centric and ethical research in biomedical sciences.

The Data Lake technology leverages blockchain to facilitate patient recruitment and consent management for medical research. It offers researchers, healthcare providers, and patients a streamlined, GDPR-compliant environment for customizing trials, engaging healthcare providers, and empowering patients to manage their data and participate in research.

Introducing the Data Lake Chain: the DeSci Layer 3 Rollup Built with Arbitrum Orbit

The Data Lake Chain operates as a Layer 3 that settles on Arbitrum, which in turn, settles its transactions on the Ethereum network. This configuration ensures exceptional scalability and the highest standards of blockchain security provided by Ethereum, aligning with Data Lake’s goal to drive innovation in decentralized consent management.

The rationale behind the Chain lies in three main aspects:

  1. Scalability: The Data Lake App processes thousands of on-chain consents and plans to expand by deploying on the Data Lake Chain, enabling the processing of millions of patient data transactions monthly with low costs, powered by the $LAKE token as a gas token.
  2. Adoption: The Data Lake Chain will offer a compliant environment for healthcare institutions and DeSci protocols, allowing them to run nodes and store data on-premise, ensuring control and proper retention.
  3. $LAKE Token Use Case: The $LAKE token will be central to the Data Lake Chain, as a custom gas token facilitating transactions and becoming essential in the healthcare blockchain ecosystem.

The Grant

As a tangible proof of Arbitrum Foundation’s support and confidence in Data Lake’s vision and capabilities, Data Lake was awarded a grant from the Arbitrum Foundation.

The grant will be progressively distributed upon completion of several milestones, including launching the Data Lake Chain on Mainnet, deploying the Data Lake Application with its infrastructure and smart contracts, and enabling the hosting of research projects, clinical trials, and consent collection, among other goals.

Data Lake is committed to build the go-to rollup solution for DeSci projects and healthcare institutions on the Arbitrum ecosystem!

Get started: Introducing the Data Lake Mokotow Testnet

The Data Lake Chain debuted on June 27th, 2024, with its Mokotow Testnet, with the Mainnet going live later this year. As described in the launch article, its parameters are as follows:

Conclusion

The launch of the Data Lake Chain as a Layer 3 of Ethereum built using Arbitrum Orbit represents a significant milestone in the Data Lake journey to drive the largest implementation of blockchain in healthcare. With the grant awarded by Arbitrum Foundation, Data Lake is poised to onboard the DeSci sector as well as healthcare institutions on the Arbitrum ecosystem to advance DeSci and revolutionize medical research. The support from the Arbitrum Foundation underscores the alignment among the two entities on achieving this mission.

Stay connected not to miss out on the updates and developments of the Data Lake Chain, starting from the launch on Mainnet, expected by the end of the year.

About Arbitrum:

The Arbitrum Foundation is a Cayman Islands foundation company that is tasked with developing and nurturing the Arbitrum ecosystem. The Foundation operates as a neutral steward in order to support the ArbitrumDAO, the continuous innovation of the Arbitrum technology and the development and education of the Arbitrum community.

The Foundation also engages in various transactions and agreements with other entities, such as service providers, traditional enterprises and contractors on behalf of the ecosystem, and supports and facilitates infrastructure, socials, subscriptions, and various services for ArbitrumDAO.

Arbitrum Orbit is the permissionless path for launching customizable dedicated chains using Arbitrum technology.  Orbit Chains can be a Layer 2 (L2) chain which settles directly to Ethereum, or a Layer 3 chain which can settle to any Ethereum L2, such as Arbitrum One. Builders can configure numerous components of the chain such as throughput, privacy, gas token, governance, precompiles, data availability layers and more, the possibilities are endless.

From Protocol to People: Data Lake’s Community Chapter 🌊

Since day one, Data Lake has been about more than technology. It has been about trust, transparency, and empowering people to take an active role in shaping the future of science. We built the Data Lake Application on Arbitrum so that every patient consent is stored on-chain with a complete audit trail – a level of accountability rarely seen in healthcare. We launched LAKE.fun, the world’s first fully decentralized patient recruitment platform, where people around the globe can contribute to research projects and get rewarded transparently in $LAKE. We ran Snapshot votes to ensure that key decisions, like research reward pools, were made by the community. And we even launched a marketing bounty program, proving that our growth belongs to everyone, not just the core team. This foundation has always been about decentralization. About people. About you. 🔓 Open-Sourcing Our Smart Contracts We believe that true trust requires open infrastructure. That’s why we are open-sourcing our consents smart contracts under the Digital Public Good (DPG) framework. The DPG framework, developed by the UN and international partners, is a global standard that recognizes technologies which: ✅ Are open source ✅ Protect privacy ✅ Advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals ✅ Can

Data Lake Study Published in Diagnostics: Proving the Power of Data Donation

Big milestone for the Data Lake: our study has just been published in the peer-reviewed journal Diagnostics 🎉 The study — “Analyzing the Gaps in Breast Cancer Diagnostics in Poland—A Retrospective Observational Study in the Data Donation Model” — is one of the first peer-reviewed proofs of how patient-driven data donation can be used to uncover real-world healthcare challenges. 587 breast cancer cases analyzed  Patient data voluntarily donated to power the research  Key finding: while first oncology consultations were timely, delays of 3+ months emerged before surgery and treatment, revealing systemic gaps  In short: patients shared their data → researchers with the help of Data Lake mapped delays → policymakers now have evidence to fix bottlenecks.   Why It Matters for Data Lake 🌊 This is more than an academic milestone. It’s validation of the data donation model we’ve been building since day one, where we proven: Patients are willing to share their data for science, provided adequate safety and trust measures are in place. It’s possible to get access to large patient populations (20k+ data donors) working with decentralized science tools, outside of traditional academia and public research financing. Time for citizen scientists to shine! Real-world data studies can
