The First Project on LAKE.fun Has Officially Launched!

We’re thrilled to announce that the first-ever project on LAKE.fun has just launched today, at 2 PM CET! This marks an important step forward in decentralized, community-driven science, and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you.

The first project, in collaboration with MedMetrix, is focused on improving the AI-powered dermatological analysis tool, paving the way for more accessible, accurate, and innovative healthcare solutions.

About the Project

Aim

The inaugural project aims to enhance the capabilities of the tools provided on the MedMetrix platform, which uses an AI algorithm (EU certified software as a medical device) to analyze over 73 skin conditions with just a smartphone photo. Research participants will contribute their data for the further development of the platform and new tools/algorithms. Read more about the science behind the technology here:

Rewards

Each participant will receive free analysis of their skin lesions with the use of a certified medical AI algorithm (market value up to 30 EUR).

All the participants who finish the research pathway using valid photos of skin lesions can also be rewarded with the $LAKE tokens allocated to this study. The total allocation is 500.000 $LAKE, distributed evenly among all the participants who uploaded valid entries and sent  surveys useful for this project.

The 500.000 $LAKE tokens reward has been established by the LAKE community on Snapshot during the DL-1 Proposal. As a result of that, 50% was transferred from the Treasury and 50% was matched with a market buy executed at block 21715320.

The project will run for three months or until the participant capacity is reached—whichever comes first. The rewards will be distributed when the project comes to an end. This is your chance to be part of something that’s not just revolutionary but also impactful for science and healthcare worldwide.

How to Join the Research

Participating in the project is simple and rewarding. Just follow these steps:

  1. Start at LAKE.fun: Visit the platform and sign up for the project.
  2. Complete all necessary steps:
    • Accept terms and conditions;
    • Grant consent for your data to be used in the study through the Data Lake Application;
    • Receive an access code to the MedMetrix platform for a free AI-powered dermatological analysis via email;
    • Use the MedMetrix platform with an access code to upload a valid picture of a skin lesion;
    • Complete the questionnaire you’ve received on your email with the access code;
  3. Finish the Process: Complete all the required steps to be eligible for your share of the $LAKE token rewards pool.

What Makes This Special?

This is the first research project that rewards human participants for contributing their data to science with cryptocurrency.

By participating, you’re contributing to the future of healthcare and helping shape a new, community-driven research model that prioritizes transparency, inclusivity, and ethical data use.

Data Lake Study Published in Diagnostics: Proving the Power of Data Donation

Big milestone for the Data Lake: our study has just been published in the peer-reviewed journal Diagnostics 🎉 The study — “Analyzing the Gaps in Breast Cancer Diagnostics in Poland—A Retrospective Observational Study in the Data Donation Model” — is one of the first peer-reviewed proofs of how patient-driven data donation can be used to uncover real-world healthcare challenges. 587 breast cancer cases analyzed  Patient data voluntarily donated to power the research  Key finding: while first oncology consultations were timely, delays of 3+ months emerged before surgery and treatment, revealing systemic gaps  In short: patients shared their data → researchers with the help of Data Lake mapped delays → policymakers now have evidence to fix bottlenecks.   Why It Matters for Data Lake 🌊 This is more than an academic milestone. It’s validation of the data donation model we’ve been building since day one, where we proven: Patients are willing to share their data for science, provided adequate safety and trust measures are in place. It’s possible to get access to large patient populations (20k+ data donors) working with decentralized science tools, outside of traditional academia and public research financing. Time for citizen scientists to shine! Real-world data studies can
