We are excited to introduce LAKE.fun, a groundbreaking platform that empowers researchers to tokenize their scientific projects, build communities around their research, and enable participants to contribute meaningfully while being rewarded in LAKE tokens. LAKE.fun is poised to create a vibrant ecosystem where data becomes the backbone of research funding and collaboration for the Decentralized Science (DeSci) space.

LAKE.fun is a tool enabling tokenization of research projects, backed by the value of data they generate, as well as leveraging the Data Lake blockchain infrastructure. It’s an additional product in the Data Lake ecosystem to further support decentralized, ethical, and efficient scientific research, leveraging the Data Lake Application and Chain. Let’s dive into what makes this platform unique and how it compliments the efforts of other projects in DeSci. 

 

The Data Lake Journey: A Foundation for LAKE.fun

Data Lake has proven the success of building a business model rooted in data. From enabling consent on-chain transactions to forging partnerships with global players, we’ve demonstrated the demand for decentralized, data-driven solutions in research. Our state-of-the-art patient recruitment application already supports evidence generation in healthcare and advancing collaboration between researchers and the industry.

With LAKE.fun, we will enable researchers to:

  • Fund research directly on our new platform.
  • Tokenize research projects, backed by the value of data they generate.
  • Use Data Lake App and Data Lake Chain for collecting participants consents and ensuring the highest standard of data privacy.
  • Recruit participants into these projects and reward them using LAKE tokens.

This new platform aligns with our mission to accelerate scientific discovery inclusively and ethically, propelling research in the areas that are important for the community. It’s a tool that hopes to democratize research and minimize bias from industry-led studies.

 

Why LAKE.fun Matters: Addressing DeSci’s Current Needs

The DeSci movement has made strides in funding innovation through IP-driven platforms like Molecule Catalyst and Bio Protocol, focusing on intellectual property creation. However, this leaves a vast gap in funding for research that produces data and community creation, such as registries, market research, or decentralized studies. 

Here’s where LAKE.fun stands out:

  • Liquid Tokens: Unlike other platforms, which focus on IP tokens, LAKE.fun aims at supporting research projects by enabling creation of liquid tokens backed by the value of data and paired in a pool with LAKE, creating an active market for contributors and researchers alike.

At its core, LAKE.fun is a platform where researchers will be able to::

  • Apply to publish their research for community voting.
  • Recruit participants by offering rewards in LAKE tokens.
  • Raise funds by tokenizing their projects, using funding contracts.

The LAKE token is projected to play a central role in LAKE.fun, as it may be used for:

  • Denomination of the project’s liquidity pool.
  • Fundraiser contributions. (while contributions will be available in all major ERC-20 tokens)
  • Early access to research fundraisers, incentivizing participation in the broader ecosystem.

Projects that successfully reach their fundraising goals may become liquid on decentralized exchanges, allowing contributors and researchers to engage with their tokens actively. We’re already conducting first internal tests of the LAKE.fun platform to ensure a seamless experience for researchers and participants. We will launch a community co-design process soon, marking the beginning of a collaborative effort to shape a new era in data-driven research funding.

As we prepare for the public release, we will collaborate with the community to refine platform features. This co-design process ensures that LAKE.fun meets the needs of both researchers and contributors, incorporating feedback to create a powerful, user-friendly ecosystem.
