It is with immense delight that we announce that we have completed our very first in-hospital data donation campaign!

.

The Mission

Data Lake’s mission is to enable better, more equitable and data-driven care for patients all around the world. To achieve this, we have created an ecosystem capable of unlocking the market of medical data, collaborating with all the stakeholders involved in the process. Among these are Data Providers, Integrators, Trust Entities, and the most important group: Data Donors.

With Data Lake everyone can become a data donor; once a user’s identity is verified, they can authorize a transaction on a public blockchain to give us consent and power of attorney for accessing their medical data. On that basis, we can source the donor’s medical data from their healthcare provider(s), anonymize it, and give them the possibility to make it available to researchers. As long as they remain an active donor, they will also be eligible for rewards through our benefits panel.

Our system is due to fully launch in the following months, but until then we can still collect Data Donor consents in person – and that’s exactly what we have been doing!

.

The First In-Hospital Campaign

In the last weeks, we have been physically present in several healthcare facilities, to talk to patients about data donation and help them become data donors. Our first in-hospital data donation campaign launched in several Polish healthcare facilities, where so far we have introduced the concept of data donation to hundreds of patients!

Fundacja Podaruj Dane (Polish for the Donate Your Data Foundation) is our boots-on-the-ground partner in Poland, and together we have created campaign signage and materials in Polish for patients (as well as custom stickers and chocolate bars for those who become Data Heroes)!

With a conversion rate of 30% (!), the feedback has been extremely positive, and we have already collected the first consents for medical data donation! That’s right, people are already donating their medical data and our system is working!

.

Final Thoughts

The response we’ve had from the people we met in the hospital has been incredibly encouraging and insightful. It proves the viability of our project, and gives us real-world proof that people are willing to contribute their medical data to science (and benefit from it)! As we continue to learn from and improve our pilot program, we’ll also be focusing on increasing our healthcare partner network and building the foundations for European expansion!

Data Lake Study Published in Diagnostics: Proving the Power of Data Donation

Big milestone for the Data Lake: our study has just been published in the peer-reviewed journal Diagnostics 🎉 The study — “Analyzing the Gaps in Breast Cancer Diagnostics in Poland—A Retrospective Observational Study in the Data Donation Model” — is one of the first peer-reviewed proofs of how patient-driven data donation can be used to uncover real-world healthcare challenges. 587 breast cancer cases analyzed  Patient data voluntarily donated to power the research  Key finding: while first oncology consultations were timely, delays of 3+ months emerged before surgery and treatment, revealing systemic gaps  In short: patients shared their data → researchers with the help of Data Lake mapped delays → policymakers now have evidence to fix bottlenecks.   Why It Matters for Data Lake 🌊 This is more than an academic milestone. It’s validation of the data donation model we’ve been building since day one, where we proven: Patients are willing to share their data for science, provided adequate safety and trust measures are in place. It’s possible to get access to large patient populations (20k+ data donors) working with decentralized science tools, outside of traditional academia and public research financing. Time for citizen scientists to shine! Real-world data studies can
